I asked a friend of mine Mason Trenaman, to write this down for me. He says it as a blessing to the congregation when he leads singing form time to time He stole it (with permission) from a former pastor at his last Church.
Some research shows that much of the language actually originated with an Episcopalian minister named Phillips Brooks in the late 1800’s. He is most famous for writing the Christmas hymn “O Little Town of Bethlehem”. Here is the version I use (taken from George Strunk, my former pastor).
And now Friends, As you leave this place, do not pray for easy lives, but pray to be strong Christian men and women.
Do not pray for tasks that shall be equal to your power, but pray for power that shall be equal to all your tasks.
And then, the doing of the work will be no miracle, but you will be the miracle, and you will be constantly amazed at what God can accomplish through the power of Jesus Christ living and working in you.
For unto Him be all power , dominion, glory and majesty, now and forever, Amen.
How true it is..............
